Welsh Wanderings

"Be careful near the wall." The blunt statement was delivered in a heavy, Welsh accent and it took a moment for the words to sink in.
What on earth did he mean? It was 7:00am and the sun was rising, making the Conwy Estuary sparkle. The quaint, bobbing boats came into sharp focus.
But, Conwy, sitting at the foothills of the Snowdonia moutains and still ringed by medieval town walls, was just waking up. As I looked around, imagining tins of paint above or cheeky Welsh imps with water bombs, he simply shrugged his shoulders and continued on his way.
Conwy Castle, constructed initially by English monarch, Edward I, dominates the landscape upon its rocky ground. Its tainted history begins with its purpose being to 'contain the Welsh'. Ghost stories fly around town, adding to the castle's mysterious aura.
As for the walls, I climbed them, grazed my fingers over the ancient stones and pondered on the stories held within. Peep holes in the battlements offer stunning views over the mountains and the sea, making it easy to picture Edward, in all his finery, riding towards the castle.
Walking back up an indescribably steep hill to my accommodation, the same man stood in my path.
"What did yer see then?" He asked, a twinkle in his eye. He was very short with a beard and wore a long, green coat.
At a loss for words, I looked back down the hill towards the majestic view; castle now in full daylight, squawking seagulls and the street with the 'Littlest House in Britain' slowly coming to life.
Turning back, I began to speak but he was already shuffling away, giving the wall a deliberate wide berth.
So, it remains a mystery for me. Unless you know the secrets of Conwy's town walls?
