5 Quirky Places
April 29th 2008 09:07
1. Street markets, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Stumbling upon these haphazard markets, your nose is taken hostage by the smell of carcasses hanging in the oppressive heat. Small dogs scurry around in cages on the ground and, if your stomach can deal with it for long enough, an endless array of shopping options await along the tables, hanging on building walls and laid out on the street.
2. Underwater Post Office, Hideaway Island, Vanuatu.
Floating over pristine coral gardens, through colourful fish in velvety, aqua water, all of a sudden you spy a letter box in the hazy, underwater distance. You can buy waterproof postcards on the island and dive down a couple of metres to post them yourself; and you definately won't have to queue.
3.Madame Brussels, Level 3, 59 - 63 Bourke St, Melbourne, Australia.
Step back in time to a kitschy, 1950's garden party: inside. A fake grass floor, white patio chairs and overstuffed couches and pink topped, lemon flavoured cupcakes compliment the impressive drinks list. Be sure to read the giggle worthy menu and check out the themed bathrooms.
4.Red light district, Amsterdam.
'Quirkiness' is paramount in The Netherlands, marvellous place of windmills, canals, bikes and dykes. However, weaving in and out of tiny alleys where prostitutes are displayed in glass booths, some staring aimlessly, some dancing, posing and leering, takes the quirky award.
5. Prague, Czech Republic.
With an 80's revival in full swing, walk into almost any nightclub and re-live the days of Boy George, fluro colours and daggy dancing: with a throbbing mass of people who weren't born until the 90's.

That would be interesting a post man hurriedly comes to the beach, puts on a diving suit and plunges into the water... only to find the post box is empty!
