Cruise Ships - Debatable Pros and Cons.
May 6th 2008 10:28
What's on your pros and cons list for cruise ships? Have you ever thought about it? The Cruise Ship industry is not only huge for holiday makers, but also career makers. Dancers, chiefs, photographers, fitness instructors, even gardeners can make a living traversing foreign seas.
The below are some I've collected from a variety of people, many opinions seem to fit in both pro and con catergories.
1. Con - Mass market travel promoting sheep mentalities and little more than over-rated buffets for lazy people. (From a seasoned traveller).
2. Pro - Easy, no fuss travel enabling you to see many different countries without unpacking more than once. (A seasoned, older traveller).
3. Pro - A way to make money, get drunk and and earn a living as a dancer while seeing othe countries - except you get kicked off if you're totally sloshed at any time. (Ex-cruise ship dancer).
4. Con - Cruise ship holiday makers only see the industrial, tourist ridden port of beautiful countries, then go back to their own countries bagging somewhere they've only spent an hour in. (Jaded, one-time cruise ship traveller who took the trip as it was cheap).
5. Con - Projectile vomiting off the side. (Anonymous).
6. Pro - Ready made friends on board make for a party every night surrounded by like- minded people. (A teenager who went for schoolies week and hooked up with different girls every night).
7. Con - Being forced to sit with people you don't know in a restaurant every evening, saying good-morning to the same faces every day and having to say 'cheers' with a bunch of inebriated, ignorant strangers every night who don't even bother getting off the ship in three weeks. (A couple who had no idea what hit them and couldn't wait to dock each time just to escape the confines of the 'ready made social network').
8. Pro - The wide open ocean, upon which adventures have been, and are coming to you. (A retired naval officer).
