Byron Bay Bluesfest
March 21st 2008 05:17
The throbbing mass of people inside the Mojo tent last night at the Blues and Roots Festival rocked out to Keith Urban, danced with the John Butler Trio and screamed for the remarkable talent of Xavier Rudd.
As we walked around the festival in between acts, delicious food was fragrant in the air, a ferris wheel added carnival flavour and the frenzied masses laughed and screamed in full festival spirit.
Byron Bay, still retaining its hippy heart despite the surrounding commercialism, is the perfect town for music festivals. There's something in the air, or the water (or maybe the smoke) that draws you in to a world full of organic food, colourful headbands and dredlocks and alternate music punctuated with cutting edge art.
All that and some of the most beautiful, deserted coastline in New South Wales makes Byron Bay a haven for surfers, backpackers and discerning travellers with the urge to happily wallow in massages, long lunches at acclaimed restaurants and diverse shopping options.
While overloading the small town, festivals blend seamlessly with the aura of Byron Bay and the outcome is pure magic. I wish I could have stayed...
Let me know if you did!
